China’s first esports-themed shopping complex has officially opened its doors in Shanghai’s Putuo District. According to Shine, the ESP eSports Experience Center will feature a professional esports arena as well as VR gaming capabilities.
“Esports is like the Super Bowl, which isn’t just a sport event but also a vehicle of art and entertainment,” said Leo Lin, the CEO of TJ Sports. “We are going for the direction of connecting esports with our games and wider entertainment business.”
This is not the first time esports has played a major role in the economic development of the Putuo District. The IMBA esports center was recently opened at the Global Harbor Mall. Also, an esports internet bar had its grand opening in the Huxi Workers’ Cultural Palace.
