U.S. Gaming Audience Cut In Half From 2020 To 2021

The NPD group recently released its 2021 Evolution of Entertainment report. In this study, it was revealed that the number of U.S. gamers had gone down to 76%.

Despite the numbers being high, this actually marks a step back for the American gaming market. In 2020, the number of U.S. gamers increased from 73% to 79%. This means that 3% of all Americans that played video games in 2020 did not play any video games this year.

Even though the American gaming audience decreased, spending on video games in the U.S. was up. In fact, video game spending in the USA has increased by 35% during a six-month period that ran from January 2021 to the end of June 2021.

The amount of time Americans spent gaming has also increased. U.S. citizens game for 16.5 hours a week on average in 2021, which is a slight increase from 14.8 hours per week in 2020.
