Riot Games’ new television series Arcane, which is based around the hit game League of Legends, has been performing incredibly well since the program launched globally on Netflix. In fact, it was the number one Netflix program in 38 countries around the globe since the show was released according to FlixPatrol.
As of 11:45 AM EST on November 11th, it is the number one Netflix program in eight countries. These countries are Bulgaria, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
Even though the series isn’t number one in China, it has still found success in the country. According to Bloomberg, the show has recorded over 130 million views in China since its launch.
At this time, only the first act of Arcane has been released. Acts two and three are scheduled to come out on November 13th and November 20th.
The Profit‘s Take:
So, it has been a good week for Riot Games since they are having success both in and outside the world of esports. There are two potential reasons for this success. One is that Riot has great IP and fans. The other cause could be Netflix because they know how to make and produce content that people want to watch. I have a funny feeling Netflix did have a hand in the production and creation of this show. I don’t think they were given a fully baked idea and told to just run it. The success of this show is huge. It makes us question how important distribution channels are when it comes to making high-quality content. It is certainly possible Riot could have been successful even without Netflix attached to this project. If Riot can have another hit like this, it becomes more clear what the driving force was behind the show’s success.
