GameStop is looking to build out its Ethereum-based Web 3 gaming arm. This comes after a job posting was listed by the company on LinkedIn on October 26th.
“GameStop is looking for a unique individual who can help accelerate the future of gaming and commerce. In this future, games are the places to go, and play is driven by the things you bring. Future creators won’t just build games but also the components, characters, and equipment. Blockchains will power the commerce underneath. An ideal candidate will have experience across several domains in gaming, content creation, partnerships, game design/development/mechanics, and a general understanding and experience with Ethereum, NFTs, and blockchain-based gaming platforms,” reads the job posting.
Back in May, the company launched a page that teased the idea of GameStop launching an NFT marketplace. It appears that the organization is still looking to hire somebody to fill this position.
The Profit‘s Take:
Wow, this article was a big bowl of buzzword soup. Maybe they want to put a GameStop in Roblox. Or maybe they want to make GameStop a place to buy NFTs. I’m not sure what direction they are going to go in here. Either way, this seems like mostly lip service.
