In a recent Corporate Management Policy Briefing led by President Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo shared some information about the organization’s plans for a new gaming system. During the presentation, it was revealed that Nintendo’s “next gaming system” will be released by “20XX”.
“Nintendo plans to continue to expand its business around the core concept of creating unique integrated hardware-software products,” reads the policy briefing. “We seek a virtuous cycle with our integrated hardware-software business and the provision of services and content based on Nintendo Accounts, in which touchpoints are created with ever more consumers and strengthened to establish long-term, mutually positive relationships.”
Beyond an unspecified release date sometime this century, very little is known about this upcoming piece of hardware. In fact, the only image Nintendo included during the presentation was a box with a question mark inside of it.
The Profit‘s Take:
You know you are going to get a new system sometime over the next 79 years. I just hope I’m around for it. We got the Switch OLED, but that didn’t set the world on fire. Moreover, Nintendo is notoriously slow when it comes to releasing new hardware. Why would anybody go on the record and say “20XX”? Funny enough, the Steam Deck was recently delayed two months. But there’s a big difference between two months and two decades. I think Nintendo is getting a free pass here. If any other gaming hardware company had said this, they would be getting KILLED! If Blizzard had said this, we would all be calling for Bobby Kotick’s head… even more than we already are. Nintendo gets more leniency simply because they are Nintendo. We are now taking bets on what year this new piece of hardware will be released.
