A tweet from Playground Games revealed that the studio’s reboot of the popular game Fable has been in development for over four years now. The Microsoft-owned organization initially revealed the game was in development back in July of 2020.
“To put the Fable franchise – and give it a completely fresh start – in the hands of one of the greatest game developers in the world, and also right there in England with Playground Games, is sort of a dream come true,” said Aaron Greenberg, General Manager of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft. “We’re letting them get a fresh start with the franchise and really you can see it’s still got the classic British humor that’s really true to the franchise, it’s obviously going to be a role-playing game, we’ve got the best folks in the industry working on it. Today was just the reveal of the game, and we’re excited to officially say Fable‘s coming, and we’ll share more when we’re ready.”
Playground Games has been tight-lipped on the reboot, which will be the first entry in the franchise since Fable III came out in 2014. Lionhead Studios, the initial creators of the series, had been working on Fable Legends up until the studio was closed in 2016. It wasn’t long after then that rumors suggested that Playground Games was working on a reboot.
Playground Games is a household name in the Microsoft stable, having led the development of the Forza Horizon series of racing games for a couple of years.
