China Launching ID Authentication System For Minor Gamers Nationwide

On September 27th, the Chinese government released a document that said it would be ramping up its efforts to prevent gaming addiction in the country. In order to do so, the government will be setting up an electronic ID authentication system for minors.

A unified electronic ID authentication system will be established for all minor gamers in the country. Additionally, the document said that gaming companies should provide a classification of their products to improve content reviews. On top of that, all online businesses must limit minors’ access to live streaming services and other media viewing networks.

“The establishment of the anti-addiction system should not be like a Whac-A-Mole game, dealing with the problems after they occur. It should work systematically, covering the entire internet ecosystem,” said a veteran industry analyst under the surname Liu.
