The German soccer team Schalke 04 recently announced it will continue participating in the global League of Legends community. This comes after the organization sold its LEC slot to Team BDS for $31.5 million earlier this summer.
“We are happy to remain part of the League of Legends community and continue to play with great ambitions in The Prime League,” said the Director of Sport and Communication, Peter Knäbel, in a translation of the organization’s announcement. “We want to fight again for the German championship and also have a say in the EU Masters.”
Schalke 04 will continue to participate in the Prime League Pro Division. This is a European Regional LoL League that is produced and operated by Riot Games.
Schalke 04’s LEC spot originally cost up to $23.75 million when it was purchased in 2019. This means the price tag increased by almost $8 million over the last two years.
