According to 21st Century Business Herald, the country is expected to begin once again issuing online video game licenses in the next few weeks. This comes after a fourth-month suspension of the licenses.
The National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) is expected to begin issuing new licenses by the end of November, said anonymous sources that spoke with the Chinese newspaper. Additionally, three unnamed executives told the South China Morning Post that they expect these licenses to begin being issued over the next few weeks.
One of the executives that spoke to the SCMP said that “quality” boutique games will likely receive licenses ahead of big-name commercial titles. Meanwhile, another exec said only a small number of games are expected to be approved for these licenses.
This announcement caused Chinese gaming stocks to soar on November 16th. Shares in Tencent rose by 2% while NetEase stocks went up by almost 4%.
