On November 30th, Qualcomm Inc. released its new top-tier smartphone chip. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip is almost entirely designed by Qualcomm. It is expected to improve the visual qualities of graphic-intensive applications as well as certain types of mobile video games.
“It’s not just saying, I’ve got the biggest CPU and I can hit a benchmark that lasts one minute,” Alex Katouzian, the senior vice president of Qualcomm, told Reuters in an interview. “We have all these capabilities, and it’s really about the user experience. That’s going to make a difference.”
Qualcomm has said over a dozen different phone makers have signed up to use the new chips, including Xiaomi and Sony. Phones outfitted with the chips are expected to be available before the end of 2021.
