Concerns Raised About The Safety Of Gaming In Tesla Cars

Tesla recently made updates to the software in its vehicles that allows occupants to play video games on the center touchscreen, even while a car is in motion. Previously, games could only be played while the cars were parked.

As a result, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently said it was working with Tesla to understand more about the changes being made to these vehicles. The NHTSA expressed concerns that this update could lead to more distracted driving.

“Distraction-affected crashes are a concern, particularly in vehicles equipped with an array of convenience technologies such as entertainment screens. We are aware of driver concerns and are discussing the feature with the manufacturer,” the NHTSA said in a statement provided to Reuters.

According to The New York Times, Tesla Model 3 owners have already come forward to express worries about this new update. In fact, Tesla has already received 59 complaints from owners regarding the Model 3 car.

The Profit‘s Take:

I personally like this gamer freedom. If I want to play some Apex while I’m driving, why should anybody stop me? I’m kidding of course. But, there’s a reason Tesla is selling so many cars. They’re a great way for you to play some video games while you LITERALLY get away from your family. Necessity is the mother of invention. If you want cars to drive themselves, there has to be a reason. What better reason is there than you’re too distracted playing video games to drive?
