Based on a report released by Newzoo on October 28th, Americans prefer playing video games over any other leisure activity. Additionally, Americans often enjoy games that feature puzzle-solving mechanics.

Gaming was the most popular leisure activity amongst Americans under the age of 50. 26% of responders ages 10 to 20 said gaming was their favorite leisure activity. Furthermore, that number was 25% for study participants between the ages of 21 and 35.

Older Americans did say they enjoyed playing video games also. 21% of responders between the ages of 36 and 50 said gaming was their favorite leisure activity, putting it in a tie with “watching broadcast TV.” However, Americans ages 51 and up said their favorite activity was watching broadcast TV by a pretty large margin.

According to research by the Entertainment Software Association, 13 million Americans began gaming during the COVID-19 pandemic. Newzoo believes these individuals will remain engaged with video games even after the Pandemic dies down.
