Nintendo recently released its financial statement for the third quarter of 2021, and the figures are surprisingly lower than many would have expected. Switch sales are down from 24.10 million units in 2021 to 18.95 million this year, which is a downfall of 21.4%. Despite Switch sales plummeting, Nintendo is still off to a solid start in 2022, thanks to Pokémon and Mario.
The Pokémon and Mario games have shown tremendous growth over the past year. Nintendo’s software division has witnessed a growth of around 2% since 2021. Their software business sales have increased from around 176.10 million to 179.29 million in 2022.
There’re three games in particular that are fueling Nintendo’s recent success and have boosted the entire sales of the company’s software business.
- Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/ Pokémon Shining Pearl – 13.97 million units sold
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 7.96 million units sold
- Mario Party Superstars – 5.43 million units sold
There are a total of 29 gaming titles whose sales figures are over one million. Of these games, there are 22 Nintendo titles and 7 titles created by other publishers. In terms of its users, Nintendo has successfully added millions of players, 18 million to be exact between 2020 and 2021.
