Luzerne County Community College recently announced it would be launching a diploma program focused on esports coaching. This comes after the LCCC board of trustees approved the purchase of more than $55,000 worth of esports arena equipment back in December of 2021.

The program will require 17 credits in order to be completed. According to a media release, this will meet the needs of students “interested in coaching eSports with the skills associated with eSports coaching at the high school, collegiate, and professional level.” Moreover, the program will focus on teaching “the foundations of coaching as well as the unique aspects of eSports,” preparing students to become esports coaches at any level of competition in any title.

This will be Luzerne County Community College’s first foray into the world of gaming. The Nanticoke, Pennsylvania-based school was founded in 1966. As of the Fall 2021 semester, there are more than 4,100 students enrolled at the college.
