According to Malaysia’s National Esports Manager, Kelvin Pang Ching Kuen, the country might begin to take esports more seriously if the nation’s esports team manages to achieve its medal target at the 31st SEA Games taking place from May 12th to the 23rd in Hanoi, Vietnam.

“I was quite surprised myself that when I double confirmed with OCM (Olympic Council Malaysia) that we are sending the largest contingent (for Malaysia) amongst all sports, so I think that was a very good start already,” said Pang during a press conference at the National Sports Council in Kuala Lumpur. “So, right now is to get the job done and hit our sasaran (targets) and then hopefully once it comes to Asian Games, Sukan Commonwealth (Games), and next year’s Cambodia SEA Games. Hopefully, we can send an even stronger team with a few other categories we missed out this year.”

The Malaysian Esports Federation aims to win four medals at the SEA Games; one gold medal for the PUBG Mobile category and one bronze medal each for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and Arena of Valor respectively.
