We have some bad news for you Splitgate fans. According to developer 1047 Games, the company is closing future development on its hit first-person shooter game.

On September 2nd, the organization posted a statement on Twitter outlining the future of the company and Splitgate. 1047 said that while the success of the title has allowed the company to recruit “top-tier talent,” the game’s development has now been likened to “trying to turn our boat into a rocket ship,” all while trying to keep Splitgate‘s original fanbase happy. As a result, the company is “ending feature development of Splitgate.”

According to the game’s FAQ page, Splitgate‘s official matchmaking servers will remain online. Additionally, there will still be bug-fix patches. However, 1047 Games has not laid out any other plans for the game after that.

Instead of doing more work on this game, 1047 announced that it will be shifting its focus to a new title set in the Splitgate universe. So far, the studio has confirmed this new project will be a shooter game with portals that is built on Unreal Engine 5. And, if that wasn’t enough, the game is expected to be free-to-play.

So, it sounds like the sun is setting on Splitgate for the time being. But, if 1047 Games’ next project is anything like its last, then this new game will likely be another smash hit.
