Why Is G2 Esports Making Its CEO Take A Two-Month Leave Of Absence?

G2 Esports’ CEO, Carlos Rodriguez, has come under scrutiny after it was discovered that he was hanging out with a very polarizing figure. Recently, a video surfaced on Twitter that showed Rodriguez partying with Andrew Tate, an influencer that has become the topic of much controversy after he was banned from Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok for terms of service violations. This reportedly includes hate speech and misogyny.

Now, it appears that Tate’s controversial ways are impacting the head of G2, who was forced to step away from the company for eight weeks of unpaid time off after the video showed Rodriguez partying with Tate as the two celebrated the organization’s recent victory at the 2022 League of Legends European Championship. After the video circulated across the internet, Rodriguez doubled down on his stance, saying that nobody will ever “be able to police” his friendships and that he will party with whoever he wants.

After that, G2 announced that Rodriguez would be taking an eight-week leave of absence from the company beginning on the morning of September 18th. In the same statement, G2 apologized to its fans, and said that it will continue to do its best “to improve ourselves and the industry at large.”

Meanwhile, it now sounds like Rodriguez has found some remorse. He eventually came out and essentially apologized for his actions.

“I failed to read this room right, feel terrible about the discussions it created and will stand up and accept the consequences in full,” Rodriguez said.
