GlobalData recently released a new report that shows that mobile gaming will make up half of the revenue generated by the global gaming industry in 2030. This comes after mobile games reportedly made up 57% of the global sector in 2021.
The report also showed that the global video game market will more than double between 2021 and 2030. Last year, the industry generated $197 billion. That number is expected to jump to $470 billion in eight years.
“Mobile gaming is already bigger than the console and PC gaming markets combined, contributing nearly 57% of global video game revenue in 2021, and this dominance is only set to continue,” said GlobalData principal analyst in thematic intelligence Rupantar Guha. “Due to its popularity and lucrative revenue opportunities, traditional console and PC game publishers such as Activision-Blizzard and Electronic Arts are increasingly focused on mobile gaming.”
The report also indicates major growth in the cloud gaming space. The report expects the cloud gaming market to go from $2 billion in 2021 to $30 billion by 2030.
