According to sources that are familiar with the business, G4TV was recently forced to lay off between 20 and 30 staff members. This comes less than a year after the incredibly popular video game talk show network was resurrected on cable and Twitch.
Kotaku is reporting that the timing and number of people laid off “took staff by surprise.” As a matter of fact, some members of the G4TV talent team showed up on set to record content the day that the layoffs were announced. According to one source, affected employees would receive between four and six months’ worth of severance based on how long they worked for G4’s parent company, Comcast.
The day after these layoffs, G4 hosts Fiona Nova and Case Blackwell went live on Twitch to address the company’s restructuring. Both of them reassured viewers that the channel had no plans to scale back its programming.
Despite this statement, it doesn’t sound like everybody is convinced that G4TV will be okay. One employee even said that they “cannot imagine the company continuing to produce our slate of content without the people we lost today.”
