Carlos Rodriguez Stepping Down As CEO Of G2 Esports

G2 Esports’ founder and CEO, Carlos “Ocelote” Rodriguez, recently announced he is officially stepping down from his leadership role with the company. This comes after it was discovered that Rodriguez had been spending his free time with controversial internet personality Andrew Tate.

Rodriguez announced his departure from G2 in a video he posted to social media on September 23rd. In this video, Rodriguez said that this was a “very hard ending to what has been otherwise been a very meaningful, joyful experience.” He went on to say that he wants to take “full responsibility” for everything that has come up over the last few weeks.

G2 Esports’ former CEO came under scrutiny after it was discovered that he was hanging out with Andrew Tate, an influencer that was banned from Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok for terms of service violations. After it was unveiled that the two were spending time together, Rodriguez pushed back against public outcry, saying nobody will ever “be able to police” his friendships.

Eventually, G2 Esports announced that Rodriguez would be taking an eight-week leave of absence from the company starting on September 18th. This caused Rodriguez to change his tune, leading to him apologizing for his actions.

Born in June of 1990, Carlos Rodriguez was a professional gamer for SK Gaming from 2010 to 2013. After he retired from pro play, he founded G2 Esports in November 2013.
