On October 17th, Discord announced it would be making several upgrades to its platform. This includes the introduction of Discord Activities, which will allow users to hand out with each other in more interactive ways. Discord is also rolling out an App Directory where users can download third-party applications.
Discord Activities is a new feature “that merges fun group experiences into voice channels and allows users to play games or watch videos together right on Discord with a single click,” explained Anjney Midha, the vice president of Discord’s platform ecosystem. This will allow people to take part in fun group activities like playing games and watching videos on voice channels.
The two activities available to all Discord users are Putt Party and Watch Party. Discord Nitro subscribers have access to even more games including Poker Night, Sketch Heads, Chess, Land-io, Letter League, and more. Once these activities are launched, users can easily invite their friends to join in on the fun.
Meanwhile, the App Directory allows hosts to easily add applications to servers. According to Amber Atherton, the head of brand communities at Discord, the company currently offers over 500,000 active apps.
