Record Number Of Countries Register To Compete In IESF Esports World Championship

85 countries have reportedly registered to participate in the International Esports Federation (IESF) Esports World Championship, which begins next month. This breaks the old record of 61 participants which was set last year.

“With 85 registered national teams, this year is going to be the greatest yet for the IESF Esports World Championships,” said Ido Brosh, the IESF’s director of global programs. “I’d like to thank the team at IESF, IESA, and Maccabi World Union for their efforts, and I am looking forward to watching the games in the online Regional Stages, ahead of hosting all the national athletes and delegates in the global finals in Eilat.”

Online qualifiers for the event begin in June and run through October. After that, the World Championship finals will take place in Israel from December 6th to December 12th.

The IESF was founded in 2008 and is now headquartered in South Korea. It works to expand esports across the globe with hopes of making it as popular as other traditional sports.
