Logitech G To Host Esports Tournament For Gamers With Disabilities

Logitech G announced it will host a first-of-its-kind Adaptive Esports Competition for gamers with disabilities. Partnering with Logitech G is The AbleGamers Charity, Adaptive Action Sports, Beyond Entertainment, Challonge, and Mount Sinai Health System. The main event will feature players from around the world in a 2v2 single-elimination Rocket League tournament.

“The wild thing about being a part of the gaming industry is that esports have so many events made for people with various abilities,” said Steven Spohn, COO at AbleGamers.  “But there is nothing mainly made for people with disabilities, and my very good friend Ujesh Desai of Logitech G and I had a cool meeting with Adaptive Action Sports. We concluded that every kind of event in the world of sports has a tier for people with disabilities to compete and see who is the best of the best, such as the Paralympics and the Special Olympics. So, the big question now is, why isn’t there an esports tournament for people with disabilities?”

AbleGamers Charity is known for its mission to combat social isolation through video games. For years, the AbleGamers organization has successfully raised funds and awareness and even enlisted the help of famous celebrities such as Ryan Reynolds. In April of this year, Brie Larson also partnered with AbleGamers to raise awareness for the cause and show her support for improving video game accessibility.

Given that video games provide people with disabilities an opportunity to combat social isolation by connecting with others, events like the Adaptive Esports Tournament hosted by Logitech G, AbleGamers, and its partners, shine a light on the need for a more inclusive gaming community. Unfortunately, despite video games being popular amongst people with disabilities, few public esports competitions are specifically designed for this demographic. However, Logitech G and its partners are looking to fill this gap by providing a safe and inclusive competition series that people with disabilities can participate in and enjoy.
