Esports Boom At SUNY Schools Leads To LeagueSpot Partnership

According to The State University of New York, the Fall 2021 esports season debuted with record-breaking numbers. In fact, 2,077 SUNY students were enrolled in esports programs this Fall, which is a massive increase from the 636 students that enrolled last year. Additionally, the number of schools that offer esports programs increased to 49 from 45.

“The SUNY Esports league has seen enormous growth over the past few years, driven by student demand for the opportunity to participate in this positive, fun, and massively popular activity at their own campuses. Esports are inclusive and accessible, providing a sense of community and belonging for students of all abilities and experience levels,” said Chancellor Jim Malatras. “The expansion of the SUNY Esports league reveals our commitment to offering students extracurricular activities they are passionate about and that contribute to their well-being and success. Esports is the fastest-growing entertainment industry in the world, and SUNY is poised to be a destination for collegiate players. It was great to help kick off a spirited competition between the University at Albany and SUNY Canton last night.”

With this newfound success, SUNY unveiled it had partnered with LeagueSpot. This deal will see the esports tournament engine be made readily available at all SUNY schools that offer esports programs. This means that all SUNY esports tournament results will automatically be posted on the LeagueSpot website.

The State University of New York is a system of New York-based colleges and universities. With 64 campuses, it is the largest comprehensive system of public schools, colleges, and universities in the United States.
