Analyzing Esports Viewership Trends For September 2021

New research showed that Facebook Gaming and Twitch viewership continued to grow from September of last year to September of this year. However, according to Rainmaker‘s insights, neither platform saw an increase in the number of hours of content watched from August to September.

Twitch experienced a slight dip in viewership. Viewership for the company reportedly dropped 5% month-over-month to about 1.7 billion hours of content watched in September. This signifies a viewership decrease of 200 million hours when compared to August of 2021.

Facebook Gaming also reportedly had a decrease in viewership during September. However, the company recorded over 500 million hours of content viewed for the third straight month.

Meanwhile, Amazon’s recently released game New World broke into the top ten list of the most-watched games on Twitch during the month of September. In fact, the game totaled over 39 million hours of viewing last during that period.
