Harrisburg University in Pennsylvania is kicking off its annual Tech and Town Week with an esports tournament which will host teams from 32 colleges and universities competing in Overwatch and League of Legends on September 18th. The games are free to watch at either Harrisburg University or Club XL, and can also be viewed online during a live broadcast on the Harrisburg University’s Twitch channel. The winners of each tournament will earn a share of a $20,000 prize pool. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sept. 18. On Sept. 19th, the semifinals and finals will be held at Club XL, with doors opening at noon.
“Tech & Town Week is a great way to celebrate the things that make our region great, including HU’s students and staff, the city of Harrisburg, the region’s employers, and the community,” said Harrisburg University President Dr. Eric Darr. “With support from the community, both inside and outside of Harrisburg University, HU was able to pivot and continued to grow our offerings in the face of the pandemic that changed life for everyone. Tech & Town week is a thank you, and a celebration, as we all move toward an exciting future.”
Tech & Town Week will feature four concerts from national recording artists Cage the Elephant, Portugal. The Man, Dawes, and Grouplove. Guests can cheer on the HU Storm (the universities esports team) during Tech & Town Week, as HU hosts the HUE Invitational, America’s largest collegiate esports tournament.
Other events will include a cryptocurrency conference, student events, a “Celebration of Innovation, Diversity, and Inclusion!” hosted by HU’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and more. For more info, visit the Harrisburg University events page.
