Toronto Approves $500 Million Esports Arena

The company behind Toronto’s future esports arena, OverActive Media Corp, confirmed that lease terms approval has been secured for the $500 million venue, soon to be located in Exhibition Place. The next phase of development will happen later in the year when the city completes its final review. Early renderings of the new development show just how incredible it will be once it opens to the public.

“The in-bowl design caters to traditional music acts, large scale events, and the best in esports competition and entertainment,” OverActive said in a press release. The futuristic design, particularly the interior, is cited as being, “inclusive of distinct influences which are uniquely Toronto.”

The 7,000-seat venue is expected to be completed in 2025, and will also double as a convention center, hosting corporate events, product launches, and even award shows. Primarily, however, the still-unnamed complex will serve as home base for the city’s two major esports teams: the Toronto Ultra of the Call of Duty League, and Toronto Defiant of the Overwatch League.

Set right on the waterfront, the futuristic-looking venue will have an in-bowl design ideal for large-scale concerts and performances of all types. The plans also include a hotel tower with panoramic views of the city and an adjoining “urban room” to host even more events.
