“Arcane” Has Already Been Renewed For A Second Season

Riot Games’ hit show, Arcane, was recently renewed for a second season on Netflix. Riot Games and Netflix unveiled the program’s renewal during a two-day-long Undercity Nights event that ran from November 20th to the 21st.

Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung are all set to return for the second season of the show. According to Deadline, production on the show’s second season has already begun.

“We are more than happy with the positive response to the first season of Arcane and we are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and [el estudio de animación francés] Fortiche to create the second installment, ”said series co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee in a statement.

Season Two of Arcane does not yet have an official release date. However, Deadline is reporting that the next installment in the series will likely hit Netflix late next year.

The Profit‘s Take:

I saw a few episodes, which is rare for me because I don’t watch a lot of TV. I have to say that I was blown away by the show. The art, the music, the storyline, it all was incredibly well-done. I was not expecting to be that impressed. There’s a gaming business story here, too. Maybe Riot will pivot more heavily towards broader entertainment as a result of Arcane’s success. It makes me constantly think why Blizzard isn’t doing this. I also wonder if this will lead to more shows from Riot over the next few years. This announcement caused me to draw comparisons between The Witcher on Netflix and Arcane. What makes Arcane successful is what made The Witcher successful: I was able to enjoy the show without needing in-depth knowledge of the game that came out before the program. After watching Arcane though, I can tell you it’s not for the hardcore gamer, and it likely won’t get new people interested in League of Legends. I truly believe this is just another revenue line for Riot and an extension of its IP. It doesn’t have to be connected to League at all, and that’s okay. However, I’m curious to see how many people came back to League after deactivating the game once they finished watching the first season of the show. I wish we had that data.
