OpTic Gaming Officially Merges With Envy Gaming, Adds Zack “ZLaner” Lane To Roster Of Creators

On November 8th, Envy Gaming announced it had agreed to a merger with OpTic Gaming that will unite the businesses and expand their operations. This deal will see the Dallas Empire Call of Duty League franchise rebranded as OpTic Texas for the 2022 CDL season.

Ray Lussier will continue to serve as the head coach of OpTic Texas. Additionally, the starting roster will be made up of well-known gamers like Seth “Scump” Abner, Brandon “Dashy” Otell, Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal, and Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro.

“There’s nothing I want more than having the freedom as a creator to create. It’s a comfort level of trust in Mike [Rufail] and the investment group he’s put together that has been there for years and that I know from personal experience. Finding people you trust, and you want to build with is the most important thing for the future of OpTic,” said Hector “H3cz” Rodriquez, the leader of OpTic Gaming.

On the same day, OpTic Texas announced the pro gamer Zack “ZLaner” Lane had joined the organization’s roster of content creators. It is expected that Lane will compete for the OpTic Warzone team. However, it is not clear if OpTic Warzone was launched for content creation or competitive purposes at this time.

The Profit‘s Take:

Consolidation is happening! Consolidation is going to happen with the orgs that can’t stand on their own two feet. Both of these companies, who have basically been mismanaged into irrelevance, needed each other to survive. Maybe part of the problem is the lack of something unique in their branding. Every team that seems to be doing well in the esports scene is doing something original that is THEIR OWN thing. Another story we recently covered was Immortals relocating its headquarters to the Great Lakes Region of the United States. Whether you think that move is good or bad, you can’t argue that they are doing something different that separates them from every other esports org. OpTic and Envy are just merging. There’s nothing that exciting or all that interesting about that.
