Battlefield 2042 is the latest installment in the first-person shooter video game franchise developed by Electronic Arts. Despite its recent release, the game has been met with a lot of negative reviews, especially on Steam.
According to a November 20th article from Forbes, Battlefield 2042 was the eighth-worst-reviewed title on the entire gaming platform. On the day that the article was published, the game had a score of 2.33, which equates to an approval rating between 23% and 25%.
As of November 29th, 2021, the game is no longer in the bottom ten. However, it is currently the 18th-worst-reviewed game on Steam at this time with a score of 3.32 (~33% approval rating).
The Profit‘s Take:
This is not an achievement you want to put on the box. The problem is that anybody can go and leave a negative review, even if a reviewer is just jumping on the bandwagon. Don’t get me wrong, there are some real issues with the game, but it feels like it’s just trendy and “cool” to leave a bad review for Battlefield 2042. This almost makes me think that Steam should do away with negative reviews in the same way Google and YouTube did. I tried Battlefield 2042 recently. The first thing it does is force you into a 20-minute battle with bots before you can even play the game. I played the bot battle and then quit immediately before even playing a single round. I am a little biased because I always thought the Battlefield series deserves more respect, but it just isn’t helping itself. Maybe the holiday season will be the game’s saving grace.
