Rahul Sood Returns To Gaming With Irreverant Labs

Former gaming industry veteran Rahul Sood is making his return to esports with his new startup Irreverent Labs. On November 15th, the organization announced it had secured $5 million in a recent funding round. This money will be used to create an easily accessible play-to-earn video game with A.I. characters living as NFTs on blockchain.

The organization was able to raise $5 million in under a week. Funding was led by Andreessen Horowitz. Additional investments came from The Chainsmokers’ Mantis Fund, Keen Crypto, Unlock Ventures, and AdvancIt Capital.

“Our first game is hilarious, and I’ve never had as much fun as I’ve had with the Irreverent Labs team, Sood said in a statement. “I speak often about gaming and blockchain’s inevitable convergence. Players should own their gaming assets the same way they own physical games, and blockchain lets us give control back to players to own, trade, sell, use, and build new metaverse experiences using components from our games.”

Rahul Sood has been a member of the gaming industry for years. He made a name for himself by co-founding VoodooPC, which he sold to HP in 2006. He also started Microsoft Ventures in 2013 and Unikrn in 2014.
