New Atari Initiative Will Focus On Producing Premium PC And Console Games

On July 5th, Atari announced it would be implementing a new strategy for the organization’s gaming division. As a result, the company will reportedly move away from mobile and free-to-play titles to focus on developing premium games for PC and console devices.

“Our intent with any gaming experience is to provide accessible and joyful moments of meaningful play,” said Atari CEO Wade Rosen. “That’s the core of Atari and what binds our history with our future. To that end, we feel that premium gaming is better representative of this type of gaming experience and the Atari DNA.”

The organization said it will no longer be selling five free-to-play games: Roller Coaster Tycoon Stories, Crystal Castles, Castles & Catapults, Ninja Golf, and Atari Combat: Tank Fury. These games will either be sold off or shut down entirely.

As part of the initiative, Atari is exiting the direct operations of the company’s Atari Casino in Africa. The organization said it will shift its focus to Television show licensing agreements and assets on the continent.
