ByteDance Reportedly Laying Off Employees At One Of The Company’s Gaming Studios

ByteDance, which is the parent company of TikTok, was recently forced to lay off dozens of employees from one of the company’s gaming studios according to sources close to the situation at the South China Morning Post. This comes amidst China’s crackdown on gaming and technology companies.

Many junior-level employees were recently let go from Ohayoo, a gaming division of ByteDance that was launched in 2018. Since this announcement, several Chinese media companies have also reported that layoffs took place at the company.

“Nearly 100 employees have been affected,” an unnamed source told the South China Morning Post. According to recently retrieved company information, Ohayoo had previously employed about 350 people.

ByteDance refused to comment on the situation when approached by the South China Morning Post on October 22nd.
