It appears that Bowie State University is looking to further develop its esports presence. The school recently announced it is expanding its investment into gaming by opening the school’s first game lab. The college hopes that this addition will bring about a new field of study in virtual game design.
“The platform can also boost teamwork, leadership, and confidence-building,” the university’s director of admissions, Brandon Vinson, said. “All these things tie into making you better prepared for the next steps after graduation when it comes to employment.”
Bowie State has already made a bid for funding. The Washington Business Journal reports that the school is currently awaiting the results of this bid.
Bowie State University is a Maryland-based HBCU. Since it was founded in 1865, it is one of the ten oldest HBCUs in the country.
