Global Esports Viewership Numbers Continue To Increase

According to a recent report from the Consumer Technology Association, the global esports audience is expected to hit 519 million people in 2024. This comes after the CTA said worldwide viewership for esports hit 300 million people in 2020.

“The rise of esports as a new form of media is here for the long-term,” said CTA research analyst Steven Hummel. “The pandemic and subsequent shelter-in-place orders gave people time to explore new forms of entertainment, opening the door to a whole new audience for esports. That audience appears poised to stay, driving industry to the next level.”

On top of this, Tencent revealed that PUBG Mobile viewership experienced a sharp spike this year. In fact, in the first half of 2021, the company revealed 75 million hours of PUBG Mobile content had been consumed. This represents a 56% increase from the second half of 2020.
