VR And AR Projects Unveiled Following Facebook’s “Meta” Rebrand

Facebook has been making a ton of headlines recently following the company’s recent rebrand to Meta. As part of the organization’s image and marketing overhaul, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the business would be launching several virtual reality and augmented reality-based projects.

“We see view this progression of technology as we’re constantly getting more natural ways to connect and communicate with each other,” said Zuckerberg in a press briefing. “Through Facebook’s lifetime, we started off typing text into websites, and we got phones with cameras. So the internet became more visual and mobile. And then as connections got better, we now have a rich video which is more immersive as the main way that we share experiences.”

Following the announcement, the company introduced Horizon Home, which will use Oculus Quest 2 VR headsets to create a socially connected virtual reality space within Facebook’s metaverse. Additionally, Horizon Home users will be able to make Messenger calls within the shared VR space.

On top of that, Zuckerberg also teased two new devices that will have access to Facebook’s metaverse. According to VentureBeat, a new pair of augmented reality glasses (Nazare) and a high-end virtual reality headset (known as Project Cambria) will soon be released by the company. However, a timetable for the official launch of these products has not been revealed at this time.
