National Students Esports Winter 2021 University Esports Winners Announced

National Student Esports (NSE) has announced the winners of the British University Esports Championship Winter (BUEC) 2021, as well as the top universities in esports for the year. 98 universities are competing for the title of Esports University of the Year, which will be named at the end of Spring 2022. Currently the Univesity of Warwick holds first place with Staffordshire University in second. Warwick has the proud distinction of holding that title for three years running.

“A lot of people may put down our success to just luck of the draw when it comes to players, but the results show more than that,” said Josh “Phosphorescent” Mankelow, President of Warwick Esports. “Having fielded these magnitudes of wins for more than three years now, we can now really flex the weight of our institutional advantage: the ethos that we build for our players and our teams and the support that we can give them to reach their fullest potential. In fact, the latest points table shows that our advantage over the other top universities doesn’t come from the number of teams we have, but from the quality of our top teams, with so many making it so far into each and every tournament. Every player at Warwick is playing to maximize their individual point contribution and that’s really hard for other unis to compete with.”

The current BUEC point table Top 5 is as follows:

  • University of Warwick – 2,037
  • Staffordshire University – 1,365
  • Loughborough University – 1,023
  • University of Southampton – 985
  • Swansea University – 955

NSE will be back with sign-up announcements coming in January 2022.
