This years The Game Awards amassed record numbers as fans tuned in from all over the globe to celebrate the best video games released throughout the calendar. This year’s host, Geoff Keighley, revealed on Twitter the astounding numbers that show the real cache and charisma of this annual event.
“We’re thrilled to share that #TheGameAwards delivered a record 85 million livestreams in 2021. Plus [a] record number of Tweets about the show (1.6 million). [A] Record number of viewer votes (23.2 million). [The] highest watch time to date on YouTube (1.75 million hours).”
The Game Awards event this year proved to be a massive hit across the globe, as seen in above tweet. What’s even more remarkable about 2021’s event is that it outgrew last year’s awards show. The Game Awards in 2020 had gained 83 million views while this year the show reached the mark of 85 million livestreams. On YouTube, the show witnessed about 1.75 million hours of watch time, on the main feed, which is 14% over 2020.
This year’s The Game Awards saw It Takes Two taking home the coveted trophy of Game of the Year. The family-themed title from Hazelight Studios was also one of the best rated games throughout 2021. Talking about the in-person event itself, then it took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
