E-Racing Added To Southeast Asian Esports Championship In Vietnam

E-racing will be a part of the Southeast Asian Esports Championship (SEA EC) 2021, hosted by Vietnam. A qualifier tournament was held on the RaceRoom platform on December 24th to decide which contestants would move on to compete. The top two players from each country are set to qualify for both individual and team events at the SEA EC held in January 2022. Their status now gives them the opportunity to compete in the Challenger Cup, a prestigious e-racing tournament set to be held later in the year.

The other sports that were previously announced for SEA EC 2021 are PUBG Mobile, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and VALORANT. The main event in January will welcome 52 teams from ten esports federations in Southeast Asia that will compete for a prize pool of $140,000. The Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) and tech corp VNG will be the main organizers of the event.

Data from a white book on Vietnamese esports 2021 shows that the number of domestic players has increased to nearly 18 million. In Vietnam, esports thrived last year and became a form of mainstream entertainment due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
