The South Korean government is reportedly looking to bring a quick end to play-to-earn gaming in the country. This comes after officials asked Apple and Google to remove P2E games from their mobile app stores. Additionally, the government plans to block the further release of any new P2E games.
The Game Management Committee (GMC), which operates under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, has requested all major mobile app stores block the release of P2E games. This includes games that require in-app purchases before they can be played.
The move does not mean that play-to-earn games have been completely banned in South Korea. However, this decision will make it more difficult for P2E games to connect with audiences throughout the country.
