Eastern Michigan, PNC Foundation, And CODE313 Teaming Up To Create All-Girl High School Esports Teams

The Digital Divas Program at Eastern Michigan University has joined forces with CODE313 and the PNC Foundation to create two all-girl high school esports teams in Detroit. This collaboration aims to provide female students with more opportunities to explore the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through competitive gaming.

“Esports opens up many doors,” said Bia Hamed, EMU’s Digital Divas program director. “Due to the Early College Alliance’s success, we are learning that esports helps girls embrace gaming as well as guide their future paths in technology. As a result, they are more likely to choose a STEM major in college or even go to college.”

Applications are open now for the team. Students can apply online or by attending the Virtual STEAM experience that is taking place on February 18th at the Detroit Piston’s practice facility.

CODE313 is a Michigan-based organization that was established in 2019. This program aims to bring enhanced technological learning opportunities to children throughout the Eastern Michigan area.
