North Macedonia has formally recognized esports as an official sport. According to the Macedonian Esports Federation (MESF), North Macedonia has become the 66th country to formally recognize esports as a sport.
Once the MESF implemented sports standards that abided by the nation’s laws, the “decision for activity” was passed by the Agency of Youth and Sport. From there, esports was given the stamp of approval by Boban Totovski, the secretary-general of the International Esports Federation (IESF).
“I am truly honored and pleased that today the esport federation becomes officially a part of the Macedonian sport,” said Naumche Mojsovski, the director of the Agency for Youth and Sport of North Macedonia. “I am glad that we agree on all the conditions and future challenges. We are recognising your talent and strong desire for great success, and I wish you as young people to continue further with the same enthusiasm.”
North Macedonia is a Balkan country located in southeastern Europe. As of 2020, the nation boasts a population of over 2 million people.
