Ransomware Group Claims Responsibility For NVIDIA Attack, Resulting In Them Being Victimized In A Cyber Attack

The gaming hardware manufacturer NVIDIA was recently the victim of a ransomware attack. According to HotHardware, a ransomware group that goes by the name Lapsus has claimed responsibility for the attack after posting redacted images of NVIDIA’s source code and directory list.

NVIDIA did release a public statement on the attack but did not go into great detail about what happened. However, sources at Bloomberg said that the hack was “relatively minor” while denying the idea that the attack had something to do with the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. According to PC Gamer, industry professionals were worried that Russia would pursue cyber attacks against western countries as a response to recent sanctions against the country.

It turns out that claiming responsibility for the attack was a bad decision by Lapsus because the group later suffered a ransomware attack of their own. The organization claimed that this attack came as a form of retaliation from NVIDIA, but that information has not been confirmed at this time.
