Pokimane Says Women “Stand Out More” On Twitch

During a recent live stream, the famous influencer Imane “Pokimane” Anys suggested female streamers stand out more than male streamers on Twitch. The 25-year-old internet personality explained that this is due to the fact that there are far fewer women on Twitch than there are men.

“When you have 100 viewers or less, there’s so many channels that when you’re a girl you stand out because there’s just less girls than guys on Twitch,” she said. “When you’re scrolling, if you see ten guys and one girl, you’re more likely to click on the girl. They stand out more.”

Despite the potential for success, Pokimane did describe some of the pitfalls of being a woman on the massively popular streaming platform.

“At the end of the day, Twitch continues to be a male-dominated field, and when it comes to content, it tends to be easier to watch people you relate to,” she said. “Until there’s more of an even demographic on Twitch, you’re going to have these issues. If you only have 10 viewers, you’re giving a lot of attention to those 10 people, right? When guys are watching a girl and she gets more popular, some will get bitter they aren’t getting the same attention from their ‘queen’ now.”

Pokimane clearly knows what she is talking about since she has 9 million Twitch followers. According to TwitchTrack, she is the most followed woman on the platform and Twitch’s ninth most followed channel overall.
