EA Moving Forward With Plan To Rebrand FIFA Games To EA Sports FC

According to sources that spoke to esports industry journalist Jeff Grubb, the renaming of EA’s soccer video game franchise from FIFA to EA Sports FC is expected to be “be finalized at some point in the near future.” This comes after it was reported that Electronic Arts was considering severing ties with the FIFA brand.

EA Sports Football Club, EA Sports FC, that’s the name of the game,” Grubb said on his Giant Bomb show, Grubbsnax. “They are ready to move on, they have another name lined up.”

According to Dot Esports, the decision to move on from FIFA’s branding came about because the soccer organization reportedly had an asking price of $1 billion every four in order to license its properties. Furthermore, FIFA reportedly wanted to double its payment demand to $2.5 billion over the next decade.

EA originally signed a licensing contract with FIFA in 2012. This contract is set to expire following the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup.

The Profit‘s Take:

We have a name now… at least that’s what it sounds like. I think they know their market is primarily NOT North America, so it makes sense that they are not calling this EA Sports Soccer.
