Organizers announced on March 31st that the venues for the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China have been completed. The 56 competition venues will be split betweent he Asian Games and Asian Para Games. The 19th edition of the Asian Games is still set for September despite China dealing with its worst COVID-19 outbreak since the pandemic began. However, organizers are pointing to a virus control plan that “learns from the successful experience” of the Beijing Winter Olympics held in February, which will be published in the coming weeks.
“We’re now just making a few final adjustments and improvements to the facilities,” said Lu Chunjiang, an official in charge of operations at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre. “Most of our energy is going towards preparatory work for venue operations.”
The city of 12 million will become the third in China to host the continental athletics competition after Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010. Some events will be held in other provincial cities including Ningbo, Wenzhou, Huzhou, Shaoxing, and Jinhua.
The games will run from September 10th to the 25th.
