Unknown Worlds Has A New Subnautica Game In Development

The Subnautica series, which was first released in 2018 to critical acclaim, has a new game in development. Word of the project came directly from developer Unknown Worlds who posted a job listing looking for a Senior Narrative Designer to join the project.

“Unknown Worlds is seeking a Senior Narrative Designer to join the team working on the next game in the Subnautica universe,” the job listing reads. “This person will collaborate closely with the team to tell compelling, dramatic stories in the context of the game experience, while also defining the history and lore of a new science fiction world and its alien inhabitants. This person has a unique opportunity to join the team early in development and help establish the narrative direction for a beloved franchise.”

It appears that we’re still very early in this game’s development, so it should come as no surprise that we have no other information or even a tangible release date to accompany this announcement. Still, there’s a lot to look forward to.

Incidentally, a new Subnautica game isn’t the only thing Unknown Worlds has cooking. The company is also looking for a 3D environment artist to work on a “new unannounced franchise,” which is presumably the new “genre-defining game” that PUBG Corporation parent company Krafton announced when it acquired Unknown Worlds last year.
