Cyberpunk 2077 Expansion Slated For Next Year

We now know when to expect the first expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. On April 14th, CD Projekt Red announced that the company would be launching the first expansion for the latest installment in the Cyberpunk series sometime next year.

Unfortunately, that was all the information we were given at this time about the game’s expansion pack. CDPR did not give us any idea about what to expect with this video game expansion, which will be the first major content update to come to Cyberpunk 2077 since the game came out in December of 2020. With that being said, CD Projekt Red did say that it will provide more details on the expansion later this year.

This announcement was first revealed in a production plan that was recently outlined by the studio. The plan mentioned continuing work on Cyberpunk 2077, the development of the next Witcher game, and an update on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

CDPR did also provide us with an ambiguous message where the company said that it’s in the middle of “conceptual and research work on unannounced projects.” Regardless, let’s just hope they do this expansion right so that people can finally start enjoying Cyberpunk the way it was originally intended.

The Profit‘s Take:

Why would they want to commit to an expansion? Maybe it’s the sunk-cost fallacy. Who knows if this ACTUALLY comes out in 2023? This feels so off for me. I don’t know why they would do this. I guess they don’t want to be a company based on just one game. Either way, this is a classic mismanagement of resources. They would’ve been better off making new IP. I would be surprised if there were still tens of thousands of Cyberpunk 2077 players out there, let alone millions.
