Is Sega Planning Its Own Gaming Metaverse?

A job posting from Sega was recently spotted which lists a vacancy for a Senior Producer for mobile and metaverse games at the company’s headquarters in Burbank, California. The job description has the Senior Producer helping with delivering Sonic the Hedgehog mobile and metaverse products to be developed for the global market.

The role also calls for the candidate to have an understanding of “a solid mobile experience, as well as what a future metaverse experience may be.”

Sega has been mostly quiet on the subject of the metaverse, although in April the company revealed their “Super Game” proposal, which includes multiple games based around NFTs.

Prior to that announcement, the company registered the “Sega NFT” trademark in Japan last December. The signs do indeed point to a Sega metaverse, but we’re still waiting for any real acknowledgment from the company to make it official.
