Former Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aimé, shared his thoughts on the future of the metaverse in a recent interview with Yahoo! Finance. Fils-Aimé believes the race to the metaverse is on, and that it will inevitably become the future of gaming as long as companies remember that the games still need to be fun.
“I do believe it’s going to be led by gaming companies and I do believe that — if delivered in a way that’s fun, that’s compelling — it’s an experience that people will want to have,” said Fils-Aimé.
Fils-Aimé also discussed how he thinks established gaming companies like Nintendo and Sony are better suited to lead the metaverse race due to their background in designing and building interactive, immersive experiences for games.
He also touched on the topic of metaverse elements like persisting digital worlds and digital avatars, and how their strong presence in gaming today should make the shift from traditional gaming to the metaverse more seamless and less of a major change for gamers.
